about

The state level annual Adivasi Mela, ethnically vibrant cultural festival is one of the most attractive events organized by ST&SC Development Department, Government of Odisha. The Mela encapsulates the rich, pristine, colourful and vibrant cultural diversity and heritage of our ethnic communities. It is a platform to showcase their art, culture, customs, traditions, lifestyle, knowledge systems to a wider community from local to global. Adivasi Mela is a microcosm of the tribal landscape of Odisha.

Odisha is home to 62 Scheduled Tribe communities including 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) occupying a unique position in the tribal map of India. It represents the expanse of the rich tribal heritage. The tribal heritage of the State is as rich in linguistic diversity as it is in it's cultural panorama.

Adivasi Mela proves to be a growing platform for cultural interactions, knowledge exchange, showcasing of tribal art, architecture, craft, cuisine, marketing of tribal products from farm and forest etc. Every year the Adivasi Mela used to be organized onsite at designated exhibition ground. This year, due to COVID – 19 pandemic the Mela is being organized with certain limitations restricting the onsite activities to the minimal and making an attempt to reach out to wider community through digital mode. Activities like web streaming of pre-recorded cultural program, immersive experience of the Odisha State Tribal Museum, digital marketing of the tribal products, arts etc. are few features to be taken up on a digital mode.
